One of the best things about spring is the numerous food-centric festivals cropping up all over town. It’s a chance to soak up the sun, sample various foods, and sip wine. A few weeks ago my husband and I attended the National Harbor Food and Wine Festival. A highlight for me were the cooking demonstrations, which included Chef Mike Isabella making gnudi.
The next event on my calendar is Great Tastes of Tysons festival, coming to Lerner Town Square May 31 and June 1 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm each day.
This inaugural festival will include over 150 International wines, spirits and beers. A featured highlight will take part on the Cooking Stage and feature special appearances on the Cooking Stage including, Chef Spike Mendolsohn of Good Stuff Eatery, Joe Yonan, editor of the Washington Post Food Section, Executive Chef Jonah Kim of Pabu, Chef Scott Drewno of The Source, Executive Chef Michael Friedman of Red Hen. Chef Victor Albisu of Del Campo and Taco Bambo will be kicking off the grilling season with Authentic South American Grilling demonstrations. All of these local, regional and nationally recognized chefs will offer meet and greets and cooking demonstrations.
Additional events include a live taping Saturday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m. of radio show Foodie and Beast with hosts Nycci and David Nellis. During the taping, guests will be included in a blind beer tasting with several of the area’s beer experts. The show will air on Sunday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. on Federal News Network.
Other highlights include music by Looking for Lester, Sean Grace, David Back and the Texas Chainsaw Horns. Plus, there’s will be a Craft Beer Tasting Village, food trucks, and special pavilions including the South American Adventure and Pan Asian Experience.
Tickets are on sale now and range from a Grand Cru Two-Day All Access Pass at $269 per person, VIP Saturday $149 or Sunday $129 a General Admission One Day Pass for $59. $39 designated driver ticket in advance.
